Worcester Shopmobility Charity

Yvonne Lloyd, a volunteer for Shopmobility in Worcester, is appealing for new people to get involved and help with the charity.

Worcester Shopmobility loans mobility scooters to disabled people so that they can get across the city more easily, and Yvonne has been helping them for 14 years, saying “I love it. It’s just nice because it is allowing people to have another lease of life and not be stuck in doors.”

Yvonne has earned the nickname “Moneypenny” because her mobility scooter has the number 007, in reference to Miss Moneypenny from the James Bond series. Her husband, Mike, also volunteers with her at Shopmobility.

Shopmobility also has the option for holiday makers to hire a scooter to take on holiday with them, to fully enjoy their break away.

However, getting volunteers is hard. “We are finding it very difficult to get people to come in and work for nothing”, explains Mrs Lloyd, “volunteers can work flexible hours, doing half days if they prefer.”

If you’re interested in helping Yvonne and the Shopmobility charity, it is based on level six of Crowngate Shopping Centre. You an also call them on 01905 610523 for more information.
