Eastgate Shopping Centre in Inverness gets all-new £10K facilities

The Eastgate Shopping Centre in Inverness has had its toilet facilities upgraded to fully accommodate disabled people. The project, which cost £10,000, is housed in a room named Lachie Smith. This was to honor the late Mr. Smith who was the head of the charity group Shopmobility that provided wheelchairs and mobility scooters to various people with mobility problems.

Changing Places, a national consortium which campaigns for inclusive bathroom facilities across the country, has officially recognized the new bathroom in Eastgate Shopping Centre.

The shopping centre also provides wheelchairs and scooters to assist disabled people during their visit. Alongside the newly-upgraded bathroom, the Eastgate Shopping Centre hopes to promote a more inclusive society.

Shopmobility is set to receive a substantial £5000 by the Inverness Common Good Fund to be upgraded. Eastgate Shopping Centre will also donate the same amount and has taken on the responsibility of cleaning and maintaining the disabled- friendly bathroom.
