About finding suitable homes for the disabled

A report covered in the U.K. showed that people living with disability were finding it difficult to find suitable homes to live comfortably. Kerry Thompson explains that she had to call the local authority persistently every single week because of her house which unsuitable to cater to her needs.

The council was reluctant to assist since they claimed to help people who were age 65 and above that were able to get accessible homes. She had to search for over three years and fortunately, she got an awesome accessible home.

Another case was that of Fiona Anderson who struggled for over eight years to search for suitable housing to cater for herself and her children. But through it all, she was able to find an accessible home for her family. Dr Rachel Docking senior program manager of the centre of ageing better explains that the local authority lacked a clear understanding of the homes required by people with diverse needs.

She explains that with commitment and action it would be possible to build homes that will cater to people needs regardless of their abilities or age.
